Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This internship supports planning and running conferences, events and meetings, in person, virtual and hybrid. What event work have you done?

What they are checking: Whether they have done real event work, even student-run, so they know what running an event actually involves.

You'd manage, prepare and pack event supplies including nametags and printed materials. How do you make sure nothing gets left behind?

What they are checking: Whether they use checklists and careful habits for supplies, because a missing box of nametags shows at the front door.

You'd draft and edit communications. How do you write to attendees so they actually read it?

What they are checking: Whether they can write short, clear messages attendees actually read, since most people skim event emails for key details.

What do you want to be able to do by the end of this internship, and where would you most need help?

What they are checking: Whether they have a concrete learning goal and feel comfortable asking for help, which shapes how much an intern gains.

What would you do

Something goes wrong on the morning of an event. Walk me through what you do.

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm and solve problems when an event goes wrong, which is exactly when event staff are judged.

How do you handle a request from someone senior that conflicts with what's already been planned?

What they are checking: Whether they can handle a senior person's late change respectfully while flagging its effects, which is hard for a junior person.

This internship is hybrid, three days a week in the downtown Milwaukee office and two remote, full time in the summer, with potential travel to events. Does that work for you?

What they are checking: The stated pattern and the possibility of onsite event work

About the work

You'd handle registration, including building registration sites. What would you check before a registration site goes live?

What they are checking: Whether they test a registration site carefully before launch, because it is the first thing attendees experience about an event.

The role includes venue sourcing. How would you compare two venues for the same event?

What they are checking: Whether they compare venues using clear criteria like cost, capacity and access, rather than simply picking the one they like.

You'd handle monthly credit card statements, check deposits and expenses. How do you keep that accurate alongside event work?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep the finance work accurate alongside events, a duty many event interns overlook until something fails to reconcile.
