About your past
This co-op runs from January through August. What do you hope to own by the end that a summer intern couldn't?
What they are checking: Whether they see the longer term as a chance to carry a project from start to finish.
Tell me about a time you had to convince someone to change a habit.
What they are checking: Whether they persuade with reasons and respect rather than authority, which is how safety culture actually changes.
Tell me about a time you organized information or training for a group of people.
What they are checking: Whether they can communicate safety content clearly, since much of EHS is training and reminders on the floor.
What would you do
You see an operator skipping a safety step to keep up with production. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they will speak up respectfully in the moment and follow up, even as a student.
An employee reports a minor injury but doesn't want it written up. How do you handle that?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that reporting protects the worker and the company and must happen even when it feels small.
About the work
What do you know about OSHA, and which kinds of hazards would you expect in an electronics manufacturing plant?
What they are checking: Whether they can name real risks like chemicals, soldering fumes, ergonomics, forklifts and electrical work instead of generic hazards.
How would you run a safety walk-through of a production area? What would you look for?
What they are checking: Whether they have a system for spotting hazards like blocked exits, missing PPE, spills and poor posture.
What is a root cause investigation, and why isn't 'the worker wasn't careful' a good answer?
What they are checking: Whether they look for system causes like design, training or pressure instead of blaming the person involved.
How would you handle environmental tasks like tracking chemical inventory or waste records?
What they are checking: Whether they see the environmental side of EHS as careful, accurate record-keeping that regulators can check.
Ergonomics is a big issue in assembly work. How would you assess a workstation where people stand or reach all day?
What they are checking: Whether they know to watch the motions, ask workers about discomfort and consider height, reach and repetition.
