Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a predictive maintenance project. Did it actually reduce downtime?

What they are checking: Whether they can show real results rather than just a dashboard with data on it.

Tell me about a time an IIoT pilot didn't scale well. What went wrong?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the gap between a working pilot and a reliable plant-wide system.

What would you do

Operations wants data now, but IT has concerns about security and support. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance both groups and find a design both will support.

How would you explain the value of an IIoT investment to a plant manager?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate technical work into business outcomes like uptime and output.

About the work

Walk me through an IIoT architecture you designed, from sensors on the shop floor to the enterprise systems.

What they are checking: Whether they can explain a full edge-to-cloud design with clear reasons for each layer.

How do you choose between processing data at the edge and sending it to the cloud?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh latency, bandwidth, cost and reliability instead of always choosing one.

How do you connect older PLCs and machines that don't speak modern protocols?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical experience with legacy equipment, which is common on real shop floors.

How do you secure an IIoT system so connecting machines doesn't open the plant to attacks?

What they are checking: Whether they understand OT security, such as network separation and limited access.

How do you decide which hardware and software platforms to use for a new deployment?

What they are checking: Whether they select tools based on fit, scale and support rather than personal preference.

How do you model and organize shop floor data so it's useful across sites?

What they are checking: Whether they think about data standards so information can be compared and reused.
