Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about automation you built to manage identities or rotate credentials.

What they are checking: Whether they can script and automate controls rather than handling machine identities one by one.

Describe a time you found a leaked secret or token. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they respond quickly by revoking, rotating and checking for misuse, not just deleting the leak.

What would you do

You find a service account with domain admin rights that nobody claims to own. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they handle orphaned privileged identities carefully, reducing risk without breaking a critical system.

A development team pushes back because credential rotation keeps breaking their app. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they solve the engineering problem with the team instead of either dropping the control or forcing it.

How would you decide which non-human identities to tackle first?

What they are checking: Whether they use risk-based prioritization, like privilege level and exposure, which the posting emphasizes.

About the work

How would you discover and inventory all the service accounts, API keys, tokens and certificates in a large hybrid environment?

What they are checking: Whether they know practical discovery methods across cloud, directory and code, since you can't secure what you can't find.

Walk me through how you'd move hard-coded secrets out of application code and into a vault.

What they are checking: Whether they have real secrets engineering experience and can plan a migration developers will actually adopt.

How should certificate lifecycle management work so certificates never expire unexpectedly?

What they are checking: Whether they understand automated renewal and inventory, since expired certificates cause outages and security gaps.

How do workload identities in AWS or Azure differ from traditional service accounts, and why prefer them?

What they are checking: Whether they understand short-lived credentials and managed identities that remove long-lived secrets.

How should ownership and review work for a bot or service principal across its whole lifecycle?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that every machine identity needs an accountable owner and periodic review, like human accounts.
