Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
What would you do
Automated password rotation breaks things. How do you find every dependency before you turn it on?
What they are checking: Whether they find every place a service account password is used before rotating it, since hidden dependencies cause outages.
You'd design privileged access policies and workflows. How do you build an approval workflow that is strong without stopping work?
What they are checking: Whether they can design approval workflows strong enough to matter yet fast enough that administrators do not look for ways around them.
You'd conduct regular access reviews and audit privileged account usage. How do you make a review meaningful rather than a rubber stamp?
What they are checking: Whether they make access reviews meaningful with useful context for reviewers, since rubber-stamped reviews leave risky access in place.
Session recording exists but nobody watches it. What would you do with that?
What they are checking: Whether they can turn recorded sessions into real detection through alerts and targeted review, rather than storing footage nobody checks.
You'd provide second and third level support for privileged access incidents. An administrator cannot get into a system during an outage. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they have a tested break-glass process that restores access in an outage while still logging and controlling who used it.
How do you handle a team that wants a standing privileged account rather than a checked-out one?
What they are checking: Whether they will hold firm on least privilege while helping the team find a workable alternative, since standing access defeats the platform's purpose.
This is a hybrid role at North Chicago. What would you want to know about the current deployment and its maturity before you took it?
What they are checking: Whether they ask about the current deployment's coverage, gaps and technical debt before accepting, showing they understand what they would inherit.
About the work
This role designs and maintains privileged access management infrastructure on a named platform. What privileged access work have you done, and on which products?
What they are checking: Whether they have real hands-on privileged access experience on specific products, since this role builds and runs the platform day to day.
You'd configure password vaulting, session recording and automated password rotation. Walk me through rolling out automated rotation for a set of service accounts.
What they are checking: Whether they can roll out password rotation safely in stages, with testing and rollback, because careless rotation can break critical systems.
You'd integrate the platform with existing identity management systems, directories and security tools. What integrations have you built, and what was hard?
What they are checking: Whether they have connected privileged access tools with directories and security systems, and can speak honestly about what made it difficult.
