Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This starts with a four week training course where you try several jobs, like tire builder, machine operator and trucker. How do you learn best when something is brand new?
What they are checking: Whether they know how they learn and will ask questions, since they need to pick up several jobs in a month.
The work includes lifting 50 to 75 pounds and standing 8 to 12 hours a shift in heat and dust. Tell me about the most physical job you have had.
What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic picture of the physical load and evidence they can carry it day after day.
Tell me about a time you were told to follow a set procedure exactly. Did you ever find a faster way, and what did you do about it?
What they are checking: Whether they stick to standard work and raise ideas the right way instead of quietly taking shortcuts.
Tell me about a time you had to keep up with a fast pace set by a machine or a team. How did you do?
What they are checking: Whether they can match production pace while still doing the work right.
What does showing up reliably mean to you, and how have you shown it at a past job or at school?
What they are checking: Whether attendance will be a problem, since one missing person can slow a whole line.
What would you do
After training, you could be placed in a job that was not your first pick. How would you handle that?
What they are checking: Whether they will stay and give an assigned job a fair try rather than quitting when placement does not match their wish.
After training you will likely move to a shift with evenings and weekends. How have you handled odd hours before, or how would you plan for it?
What they are checking: Whether they have thought through the schedule, which is one of the most common reasons new production hires leave.
You are working a machine and you see something that looks unsafe with the equipment next to you. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they would stop and report a hazard even when it is not their station.
About the work
Hearing protection and steel toe shoes are required everywhere on the floor. Why do you think the plant is so strict about safety gear?
What they are checking: Whether they take safety seriously in a plant full of machines, heavy loads and forklift traffic.
You have used hand tools or power tools before? Tell me what you have used and for what.
What they are checking: How comfortable they already are with tools, which helps the trainers decide where to start.
