Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You would assist level one and two machinists with issues. How do you help someone without simply doing their setup for them?
What they are checking: Teaching rather than rescuing, which the posting asks for.
You would assist with process improvement tools such as designed experiments. Tell me about improving a process on an existing part.
What they are checking: Improvement work beyond running the job as written.
This is a level three seat in Lincolnshire asking for five or more years as a computer numerical control machinist with manual machining experience, lifting up to fifty pounds unassisted. What would you want to know about the machines and the parts?
What they are checking: That they ask what they would be running.
What would you do
You would load and edit programs as needed. When would you edit a program rather than ask for it to be corrected?

A part is coming out of tolerance partway through a run. How do you find out why?

About the work
This role independently sets up and operates horizontal machining centers to blueprint specification. Walk me through setting up a job you have not run before.
What they are checking: Setup method, which is what separates a level three machinist from an operator.
You perform stability studies on the gauges used. What does that tell you, and what would you do if a gauge failed one?
What they are checking: Measurement system knowledge, a specific duty most machinists do not have.
The role asks you to manage workflow efficiently in a work cell structure. How does a cell change how you plan your day?
What they are checking: Understanding of cellular manufacturing rather than standalone machine work.
How do you read a blueprint for a feature you have never machined?
What they are checking: Print literacy and how they approach an unfamiliar requirement.
What measurement equipment do you reach for, and when?
What they are checking: Concrete metrology habits.
