Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You'd deliver written reports, process documentation and client presentations. How do you present a technical finding to a public agency's leadership?

What they are checking: Whether they can present technical findings plainly to public sector leaders, focusing on impact and decisions rather than system detail.

The posting names taking ownership of client relationships and supporting business development. How do you find more work with a client without overselling?

What they are checking: Whether they can grow client relationships by delivering well and spotting real needs, because this level carries business development expectations.

What would you do

You'd facilitate stakeholder meetings, interviews and workshops to gather business and technical requirements. How do you run a requirements workshop that produces something usable?

What they are checking: Whether they can run workshops that produce clear, usable requirements, because facilitation is a named duty in these implementation projects.

A client's existing process cannot be configured in the new system. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can decide between process change, workaround or customization, because legacy processes rarely fit a packaged system exactly.

About the work

This role implements human capital management and payroll systems for public sector clients. Walk me through an implementation you worked on end to end.

What they are checking: Whether they have truly implemented HCM or payroll systems end to end, because the posting makes that experience a firm requirement.

What is different about payroll for a government employer compared with a private one?

What they are checking: Whether they understand pensions, unions, grants and public rules in government payroll, because public sector specialization is required for this role.

You'd write user stories and monitor development and deployment in an agile environment. What makes a user story a developer can actually build from?

What they are checking: Whether they know what makes a user story clear, testable and buildable, because agile delivery depends on developers understanding the need.

The posting names application lifecycle management tools such as Jira, DevOps and ELM. Which have you used, and for what?

What they are checking: Whether they have genuinely used Jira, Azure DevOps or ELM tools, because the posting names them as part of daily delivery work.

You'd support testing and reconciliation from the business process perspective. How do you test a payroll system before a client's first live run?

What they are checking: Whether they understand parallel runs and reconciliation before go-live, because payroll errors directly affect people's pay and trust in the system.

The posting states an undergraduate degree and a strict minimum of five years of technology project business analysis experience. Where do you sit against that?

What they are checking: Whether they meet the degree and five-year business analysis requirement, because the posting presents both as strict minimum qualifications.
