Likely interview questions for this role

About your past

You'll be part of our New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. What do you hope to get out of your first year, and how will you know you're growing?

What they are checking: Whether they have realistic goals and see the residency as active learning rather than just orientation.

Tell me about a clinical experience in school where you felt unsure of yourself. What did you do about it?

What they are checking: Whether they ask for help when they don't know something, which is the main safety trait in a new nurse.

Tell me about a time you got critical feedback from a clinical instructor or preceptor. How did you take it?

What they are checking: Whether they can hear correction without getting defensive, which shapes how fast they'll grow in residency.

The job asks for care that considers spiritual and cultural needs. Tell me about a time you adjusted care for a patient's beliefs or background.

What they are checking: Whether they treat the whole person and respect differences rather than delivering one-size-fits-all care.

New nurses often struggle with stress and burnout. What will you do to take care of yourself in your first year?

What they are checking: Whether they have real coping habits and know when to reach out, which predicts whether they'll stay.

What would you do

You have four patients and two call lights go on at once, one for pain and one for help to the bathroom. Your third patient is due for a scheduled IV antibiotic. How do you sort it out?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize by risk and use the team instead of trying to do everything alone.

You notice an experienced nurse skipping a step in a safety protocol. What do you do as the new nurse on the unit?

What they are checking: Whether they will speak up for patient safety even when they're the most junior person in the room.

About the work

A patient's blood pressure is much lower than it was four hours ago and they say they feel dizzy. Walk me through your next steps.

What they are checking: Whether they combine a focused assessment with fast escalation instead of just rechecking and waiting.

How do you approach teaching a patient about a new medication when they seem overwhelmed?

What they are checking: Whether they use teach-back and plain language so the patient really understands rather than just nodding.

How do you keep your documentation accurate and timely when the shift gets busy?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that late or missing charting creates real risk for patients and for the nurse.
