Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a Python automation you built that saved a team significant time.

What they are checking: Whether they have built real scalable tools, not just scripts for themselves.

How do you document and share technical systems so others can maintain them?

What they are checking: Whether they build things that the team can own, not single points of failure.

What would you do

An automation job fails and pages go live in English for a key market. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they fix the immediate problem, communicate impact and add monitoring to prevent repeats.

A product team wants to launch globally next month but their content isn't ready for localization. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can consult internal teams practically and help them prepare rather than simply blocking them.

How would you decide whether to buy a localization tool or build your own?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh cost, flexibility and maintenance honestly.

About the work

Walk me through how you'd design an automated localization workflow from content creation to published translation.

What they are checking: Whether they can architect an end-to-end pipeline that connects content systems, translation and publishing.

How have you used agentic AI workflows or LLMs in localization, and where do they fail?

What they are checking: Whether they apply AI with an honest view of quality risks like terminology and context errors.

What internationalization problems do you look for when reviewing content or code before localization?

What they are checking: Whether they catch issues like hardcoded strings, date formats and text expansion early.

How would you integrate a translation management system with a CMS through APIs?

What they are checking: Their hands-on API and integration skills, which the role depends on.

How do you measure the quality and efficiency of a localization pipeline?

What they are checking: Whether they track things like turnaround time, cost and quality scores.

Secure Every Identity, from AI to Human Identity is the key to unlocking the potential of AI. Okta secures AI by building the trusted, neutral infrastructure that enables organizations to safely embrace this new era. This work requires a relentless drive to solve complex challenges with real-world stakes. We are looking for builders and owners who operate with speed and urgency and execute with excellence. This is an opportunity to do career-defining work. We're all in on this mission. If you are too, let's talk. About the Role: Okta is looking for a highly skilled Globalization Engineer to be the technical backbone of our global digital operations. You will be responsible for owning, building, and optimizing the automation and technology stack that powers our localization team. This is a hands-on role for an experienced technical expert who is passionate about building robust, scalable systems. You will leverage your deep expertise in APIs, AI, and internationalization to solve complex technical challenges and drive efficiency. As a subject matter expert, you will also act as a key technical consultant to internal teams, helping them prepare content for a global audience. What you'll be doing: • Build and Own the Localization Automation Framework: Design, develop, and maintain the core automation workflows for our content lifecycle using agentic workflows, Python and APIs, connecting our TMS with content sources, repositories, and other internal tools. • Spearhead AI and Technology Integration: Research, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge localization technologies, including AI/LLM-based solutions and advanced TMS features, to improve the quality, speed, and cost-effectiveness of our workflows. • Provide Technical Oversight and Systems Integrity: Act as the authority for resolving high-impact architectural failures. Conduct deep-dive root cause analysis on complex integration issues, file parsing conflicts, and system-wide bottlenecks to ensure uninterrupted uptime for the localization pipeline. • Advise on Internationalization (i18n): Consult with product and engineering teams by providing expert technical guidance, conducting i18n code audits, and defining best practices to ensure new experiences and features are architected for seamless localization. • Manage and Optimize the TMS Environment: Serve as the primary technical owner of our Translation Management Systems (e.g., XTM, Smartling), responsible for configuration, maintenance, and optimization. • Drive Early Detection (Shift-Left Strategy): Develop and deploy "self-service" tools for dev teams, such as pseudo-localization pipelines and i18n auditing, enabling them to identify and fix UI truncation, hard-coding, and concatenation issues before they reach the translation phase. What skills you'll bring: • 6-8 years of experience in software or globalization engineering, with a proven track record of architecting localization solutions at scale. • Expert-level proficiency in Python and leveraging APIs to build and maintain custom automation frameworks and system integrations. • Experience with enterprise CMS or MSM platforms (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager). • Proven, hands-on experience implementing and utilizing AI in localization workflows (e.g., custom MT pipelines, quality estimation, prompt engineering for LLMs). • Deep technical understanding of the localization landscape, including TMS architecture, content parsing, and a wide variety of file formats (JSON, XML, XLIFF, properties, etc.). • Ability to conduct code-level i18n reviews and provide actionable feedback to developers in a way that encourages adoption of global best practices. • A systematic and analytical problem-solving mindset, with a demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently. • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple technical projects simultaneously. What sets you apart: • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems like Git and automated testing frameworks. • Experience with data analysis and reporting on workflow performance. #LI - Hybrid P24082_3505967 Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington.
