Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

How much forklift experience do you have, and what types of trucks have you operated?

What they are checking: Whether their experience matches the equipment and pace of a busy can plant warehouse.

Tell me about a time you saw someone driving a forklift unsafely. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they will speak up about safety even when it means calling out a coworker.

Are you comfortable working rotating shifts and overtime when the plant needs it?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably cover the schedule of a plant that runs nearly all the time.

What would you do

You are moving a tall load of finished cans and it starts to lean. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they react calmly and safely rather than trying to save the load at the cost of injury.

The line is about to run out of ends and you have three other requests waiting. How do you decide what to move first?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that a starved production line costs more than a short wait elsewhere.

You damage a pallet of product while moving it. What do you do next?

What they are checking: Whether they report damage honestly right away instead of hiding it from supervision.

About the work

Walk me through your pre-shift inspection on a forklift.

What they are checking: Whether they actually check brakes, forks, horn, fluids and hoses rather than skipping straight to driving.

How do you load a trailer safely, and what do you check before you drive onto it?

What they are checking: Whether they know about wheel chocks, dock plates and trailer condition before entering a truck.

How do you make sure inventory ends up in the right location so others can find it?

What they are checking: Whether they see accurate put-away as part of the job, since lost pallets cause real delays.

How do you handle pedestrians in a busy area where people are walking near your route?

What they are checking: Whether they slow down, use the horn and make eye contact rather than assuming people will move.
