Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about reviewing a staff member's workpapers where the testing did not support the conclusion. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Review standards and the conversation that follows.

Describe presenting a technology finding to a chief financial officer who does not work in technology.

What they are checking: Communication across the technology and business divide.

Crowe also posted a temporary Large Bank Information Technology Internal Audit Senior Consultant and a Cyber Security Assessment Manager covering similar ground. What makes this manager seat the right one for you?

What they are checking: Self-placement across the overlapping technology audit roles posted together.

This is a Chicago role asking for five or more years in financial institutions, a large firm or regulatory supervision, with a professional certification in systems audit, security, accounting or internal audit. Which do you hold, and what do you want to know about the size of the banks you would serve?

What they are checking: A direct check on credentials and client scale.

What would you do

How do you test an application control that only fires under conditions you cannot reproduce?

What they are checking: Evidence gathering where the control is hard to observe.

A bank's regulator has raised a concern in an area you are auditing. How does that change your approach?

What they are checking: Working alongside regulatory attention in a supervised industry.

How do you advise a client on transforming their internal audit methodology rather than just executing the current one?

What they are checking: The transformation advice this posting distinguishes from execution.

About the work

This leads technology general controls audits for banks. Walk me through how you would scope a change management control audit.

What they are checking: Scoping in one of the core general control domains.

Explain key report testing to a client who thinks their reports are fine because they have always used them.

What they are checking: A control area clients routinely underestimate.

How do you use the internal control and technology governance frameworks — the sponsoring organizations model and the technology control objectives framework — without letting the engagement become a framework exercise?

What they are checking: Frameworks as a tool rather than an output.
