Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You compile data for accreditation reports and outside agencies. Tell me about preparing documentation that somebody outside the institution would review.

What they are checking: Accuracy under external scrutiny.

Fellows are physicians in training, often under pressure. How do you build a working relationship with them?

What they are checking: Interpersonal approach with a group who need an ally in the office.

This sits in the administrative support team of the Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. What would you want to know about how the programs are staffed before taking it?

What they are checking: That they ask about workload across three programs.

What would you do

You would manage recruitment and the Match process. Walk me through the busiest stretch of a recruitment season and how you plan for it.

What they are checking: Familiarity with the cycle, which is fixed and unforgiving.

You track compliance with mandatory trainings and manage performance assessments in MedHub. How do you get an evaluation completed by a physician who has not responded to three reminders?

What they are checking: Persistence with busy clinicians, which is the daily reality of the job.

You manage continuing medical education for the programs, including collecting learning objectives and distributing credit codes. How do you keep that from slipping when conferences run weekly?

What they are checking: Routine administration that fails quietly if not tracked.

You help monitor education budgets and individual fellow stipend spending. How do you handle a fellow who wants to spend their allowance on something borderline?

What they are checking: Applying a rule to someone they work with closely.

About the work

This role supports fellowship programs in pulmonary and critical care, sleep medicine, and a non-accredited interventional pulmonary program. How does supporting an accredited program differ from supporting one that is not?

What they are checking: Whether they understand what accreditation actually requires.

You build inpatient block schedules and ambulatory schedules for fellows. What makes a training schedule hard to build?

What they are checking: Understanding of duty requirements, coverage and competing educational needs.

The role involves reporting and ensuring compliance on licensing, moonlighting, annual contracts and credentialing. What happens if one of those lapses?

What they are checking: Whether they grasp the consequence, which is a trainee unable to work.
