Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the most complex database transformation you have led for a large client, and what you would do differently.

What they are checking: Whether they have truly led enterprise-scale work and can reflect honestly on its tradeoffs.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a Solution Architect or Engineering lead on a design. How did you resolve it?

What they are checking: Whether they can use authority well and reach good decisions with peers, not just win arguments.

How do you keep up with data platform innovation, and how do you decide which new technology is ready for client use?

What they are checking: Whether their curiosity is matched by judgment about what is proven enough for production.

How do you mentor other architects and engineers so your knowledge is not a single point of failure?

What they are checking: Whether they build up others, which a top technical authority role depends on.

What would you do

An executive asks you why their database costs keep rising. How do you explain it and what do you recommend?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate technical drivers into business terms a senior leader can act on.

A strategic client's critical database has a major outage during a migration cutover. What do you do in the first hour?

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm, lead recovery and communicate clearly with the client under pressure.

How would you work with Product Management to turn what you see across client accounts into new Ensono offerings?

What they are checking: Whether they think beyond single engagements and help shape the company's service strategy.

About the work

A client wants to move a large on-premises Oracle estate to the cloud. How do you decide what to rehost, re-platform or rebuild?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh licensing, performance, risk and business goals rather than defaulting to one pattern.

How would you write enterprise database architecture standards that teams across many client accounts will actually follow?

What they are checking: Whether they can make standards practical and enforceable, not just documents nobody reads.

How do you design for high availability and disaster recovery for a mission-critical database, and how do you set RPO and RTO with the business?

What they are checking: Whether they tie resilience design to what the business can afford to lose, not just best practice.

When would you recommend a managed cloud database over a self-managed one, and when not?

What they are checking: Whether they understand control, cost and operational tradeoffs in modern data platforms.
