Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You need at least five years of bodywork. Tell me about the hardest panel repair you have done and how you approached it.
What they are checking: Whether their experience really includes heavy, multi-panel repair rather than mostly light dent and prep work.
This role trains other body techs. Tell me about a time you taught someone a skill that took them a while to get.
What they are checking: Whether they can teach patiently and explain the why, since training others is part of the job here.
Tell me about a repair that came back to you. What went wrong and what did you change?
What they are checking: Whether they learn from comebacks honestly, which is the clearest sign of an experienced and trustworthy body tech.
What would you do
A newer tech hands off a car for paint, and you can see the panel is not straight. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they hold the quality line and coach the person, rather than passing the problem down to the painter.
Production is behind and your lead wants a large repair done faster than you think it can be done right. How do you respond?
What they are checking: Whether they can push back with facts and offer options without either refusing outright or cutting corners.
About the work
Walk me through how you repair a cracked plastic bumper using welding or stapling.
What they are checking: Whether they know a full plastic repair process, from prep and reinforcement to finishing, not just filling the crack.
When do you pull and straighten a damaged panel versus recommending replacement?
What they are checking: Whether they make sound repair-or-replace calls that balance cost, time and the quality a customer will see.
Explain how you use a stud welder and when you shrink metal during a repair.
What they are checking: Whether they understand heavy metal work well enough to avoid stretched or warped panels that fail later.
What makes a rocker panel or roof repair harder than a door or fender, and how do you handle it?
What they are checking: Whether they know the structural and access challenges of these areas, which the posting lists by name.
How thick is too thick for body filler, and how do you make sure a large Bondo repair holds up?
What they are checking: Whether they know filler limits and proper metal work underneath, since a thick filler repair cracks after the sale.
What safety gear and ventilation do you use when welding and sanding filler all day?
What they are checking: Whether they protect their own health and their coworkers in a shop with fumes, dust and sparks.
