Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to adjust the daily schedule on short notice because someone called in sick or a unit suddenly needed more coverage. What did you do?

whether the candidate can handle real-time staffing problems without losing coverage in critical areas

Have you ever had to step in and do the cleaning work yourself because the team was short-handed? What happened?

whether the candidate is willing to work hands-on and knows the tech role well enough to fill in

Tell me about a time two coworkers were in conflict and it was starting to affect the work. How did you step in?

conflict resolution skills among peers, since the lead role has no formal authority but must keep the team functioning

Tell me about a time you noticed equipment was damaged or not working right before a shift change. What did you do?

attention to equipment maintenance and whether they think ahead for the next shift

Why does housekeeping experience matter for this job, and what have you learned from your time doing it that you'd pass on to someone new?

knowledge of hazardous materials protocol and whether safety steps come before task completion

Tell me about the AIDET framework and how you've used it, or something similar, with a patient or family member who was upset.

familiarity with the hospital's specific communication framework and real application, not just theory

What's your experience doing high-touch room inspections, and what do you actually check for?

concrete knowledge of infection control standards and inspection routines, not just general cleaning experience

Situational

Walk me through how you would run second shift with a rotating weekend crew, some of them newer staff. How do you make sure every assigned area actually gets done?

understanding of shift accountability and verification, not just assigning tasks

Say a nurse tells you a room hasn't been turned over fast enough and a patient is waiting to be admitted. How do you handle that in the moment?

ability to prioritize under pressure and communicate across departments like a liaison

How would you introduce a new piece of cleaning equipment or a new cleaning method to a team that's used to doing things the old way?

training ability and how they handle resistance to change

A family member complains to you directly about how their loved one's room looks. What do you say and do next?

customer service instincts and knowing when to escalate versus resolve directly

If a coworker's performance or conduct was becoming a problem, how would you document it and bring it to leadership?

understanding of the chain of command and comfort with the reporting side of a lead role
