Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You'd lead a team of three and be part of the site leadership team. How do you balance developing your engineers with getting projects done?

What they are checking: Whether they invest in their people's growth while still delivering results with a small team.

Tell me about a capital project you led from approval through startup. What went wrong and how did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they have managed real projects end to end, including budget, schedule and problems along the way.

Tell me about a time you improved a manufacturing process and the results you got.

What they are checking: Whether they can point to measurable improvements in safety, productivity or quality they personally drove.

What would you do

Production wants a fix now, and you think the real problem needs a longer root cause effort. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they can offer a short-term containment while still pushing for the lasting fix.

How do you prioritize engineering requests coming from Production, Maintenance, Safety, Quality and ICT all at once?

What they are checking: Whether they have a fair, transparent way to rank work based on risk and value, not who shouts loudest.

How would you use engineering interns so the work is real and useful to the plant?

What they are checking: Whether they can scope meaningful intern projects and supervise them without losing the team's focus.

A new piece of equipment you recommended is underperforming after install. How do you handle it with leadership?

What they are checking: Whether they own the result honestly and work with vendors and operations to fix it rather than defending the choice.

About the work

Walk me through how you build a capital plan and justify a project to leadership.

What they are checking: Whether they can tie capital spending to safety, reliability or payback with a clear business case.

What reliability tools have you used to reduce downtime in a manufacturing plant?

What they are checking: Whether they know practical methods like root cause analysis, preventive maintenance and failure data to improve uptime.

How do you build technical capability in a small team that has to cover many areas of a plant?

What they are checking: Whether they plan cross-training and growth so the team is not dependent on one person's knowledge.

What role should engineering play in safety at a plant like this?

What they are checking: Whether they design safety into equipment and processes rather than treating it as someone else's job.
