Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a smart building or IoT program you led. What value did it deliver for the client?

What they are checking: Whether they can show real outcomes, like energy or maintenance savings, from technology programs.

Tell me about a time you had to present a technology investment to a client executive.

What they are checking: Whether they have the executive presence to win funding for emerging technology.

What would you do

Half the sites in a portfolio have old BMS controllers that can't connect cleanly. How do you plan around that?

What they are checking: Whether they can phase upgrades and workarounds sensibly across a mixed, aging portfolio.

Site engineering teams see new technology as extra work. How do you win them over?

What they are checking: Whether they can drive adoption with frontline engineers instead of pushing tools from above.

How do you decide whether an emerging technology is ready to roll out across a client's portfolio or needs a pilot first?

What they are checking: Whether they balance a bias for action with disciplined testing before scaling.

About the work

Walk me through how you would connect a client's building management systems across a large portfolio to a building operating system.

What they are checking: Whether they understand BMS integration, protocols like BACnet, and the networking work that BOS programs need.

What are the biggest cybersecurity risks when you put building systems and IoT devices on a network?

What they are checking: Whether they treat security as part of smart building design rather than an afterthought.

How do you turn data from a building operating system into actions that site engineers will actually take?

What they are checking: Whether they understand fault detection and workflows that put insights into the hands of operators.

How would you build a strategic asset plan that uses condition data and performance data together?

What they are checking: Whether they connect smart building data to long-term capital planning, which the posting names.

What performance metrics would you track to show a BOS program is working?

What they are checking: Whether they define clear measures like connectivity rates, fault closure and energy savings.
