Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through a control strategy you developed for a drivetrain, suspension or body system. How did you verify it?

What they are checking: Whether they have real experience taking controls from design through verification on vehicles.

Tell me about a bug that only showed up on the real vehicle. How did you track it down?

What they are checking: Whether they can debug with logging, bus traces and hardware in the loop.

What would you do

You're on several projects and two need a software release the same week. How do you manage it?

What they are checking: Whether they plan, communicate and protect quality when stretched across projects.

A teammate pushes back hard on your review comments. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they keep reviews about the code and resolve disagreements with evidence.

About the work

When do you hand-write embedded C or C++ and when do you use MATLAB/Simulink autogenerated code?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the trade-offs of model-based design versus hand code on embedded targets.

How do you design control software that stays safe when a CAN message goes missing or a sensor fails?

What they are checking: Whether they plan timeouts, plausibility checks and safe fallback states.

How would you approach controlling an advanced suspension on a heavy off-road vehicle?

What they are checking: Whether they can reason about dynamics, sensors, actuator limits and tuning for harsh terrain.

What do you look for when peer reviewing someone else's embedded control code?

What they are checking: Whether they catch real risks like timing, overflow, state errors and unclear logic.

How do you handle real-time constraints on an embedded controller with limited CPU and memory?

What they are checking: Whether they understand task scheduling, loop rates and resource budgets.

How would you tune a PID loop for a material handling system that oscillates under load?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical tuning experience beyond textbook theory.
