Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you noticed something off during a scope's high level disinfection cycle or with the recorder data. What did you do?

attentiveness to monitoring detail and willingness to escalate rather than assume everything is fine

Describe a time you had to assist a patient during an endoscopy procedure, like helping with positioning or manipulating the abdominal wall. What was your role versus the RN's?

understands scope of practice boundaries and works under RN guidance appropriately

Give me an example of a time you had to communicate something urgent to an RN, charge nurse, or physician during a procedure.

clear, timely communication under pressure in a clinical hierarchy

Tell me about a time you had to respond quickly to an emergency or a code. What did you do first?

composure and correct prioritization under acute pressure

Technical

Walk me through how you would reprocess a scope after a procedure, from the moment it leaves the room to the point it's ready for the next patient.

whether the candidate actually knows the decontamination and high-level disinfection steps required by SGNA standards

What protective attire and precautions do you take when handling soiled instruments, and why does the order matter?

real familiarity with asepsis practice, not just knowing the words

A patient is scheduled for a procedure using electrocautery. What do you personally check before that patient goes on the table?

knowledge of grounding pad placement and equipment safety checks tied to patient safety

How do you handle labeling and transporting a specimen when things are chaotic and multiple procedures are happening at once?

reliability with a task where a mislabeled specimen has real patient consequences

What's your experience with hospital computer systems like tracking boards or imaging systems, and how comfortable are you picking up new software quickly?

basic computer literacy needed for tracking equipment and patient charts

Situational

If the disinfection equipment malfunctions mid-cycle and the charge nurse is busy with a patient, what's your next move?

knows the escalation chain (charge person, then Biomedical Engineering) and won't just wait around or improvise

Tell me about a time the schedule was packed and you had to turn a procedure room around fast. How did you keep it safe instead of just fast?

can balance speed demands of a busy GI lab with not cutting corners on safety or cleanliness

This unit runs rotating shift starts from 7 to 9:30 and covers Saturdays, with call coverage for evenings and weekends. How do you feel about that kind of variable schedule?

honest read on whether the candidate can actually sustain the unpredictable schedule long term

This job involves lifting patients, sometimes over 35 pounds, and being exposed to body fluids, chemicals, and infectious waste daily. What's your comfort level with that side of the work?

realistic self-assessment of physical demands and exposure risk, not just enthusiasm for the title

If a physician asks you to do something during a procedure that you're not sure is within your role as a tech, what do you do?

understands scope-of-practice limits and isn't afraid to speak up or defer to the RN
