Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You've worked as an EMT. What makes you want to move from the field into a plasma donation center?
What they are checking: Whether they understand the slower, repetitive pace of a center and will stay once the adrenaline is gone.
Tell me about a time your documentation had to be exact. How did you make sure nothing was missed?
What they are checking: Whether they treat records as part of the work, since an incomplete record can mean a plasma unit gets thrown out.
BioLife says customer service and quality are both expected. Tell me about a time those two pulled against each other and how you handled it.
What they are checking: Whether they can keep a donor happy without bending a rule, which is the daily balance in this job.
What would you do
In the field you made calls on your own. Here you'll work under the center manager and written procedures. How do you handle a situation where your instinct and the SOP point different ways?
What they are checking: Whether they will follow regulated procedure and escalate rather than improvise, which is non-negotiable in an FDA-regulated center.
You'll help decide whether a donor is eligible to donate today. What would make you defer someone even if they really want to donate and need the money?
What they are checking: Whether donor safety and product safety beat the pressure of a disappointed donor standing in front of them.
How do you explain to a donor that a lab result means they can no longer donate, when they're upset and asking questions you can't fully answer?
What they are checking: Whether they can deliver hard news with care while staying inside what they are allowed to say.
Some donors come in twice a week for years. How would you keep your assessments sharp when you see the same faces over and over?
What they are checking: Whether they guard against complacency, where a familiar donor's new symptom gets waved through.
The floor is backed up, donors are waiting, and a coworker asks you to speed up a screening you think needs more time. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they hold their ground on safety under time pressure without creating conflict on the team.
About the work
A donor goes pale and sweaty a few minutes into the collection and says they feel dizzy. Walk me through what you do.
What they are checking: Whether they recognize a vasovagal reaction early and act in a calm order instead of freezing or overreacting.
Partway through a donation someone tells you their lips and fingertips are tingling. What do you think is happening and how do you respond?
What they are checking: Whether they can reason about a citrate reaction even if they have never worked with anticoagulant before.
Which vital signs would you look at during a pre-donation screening, and what reading would make you stop and look closer?
What they are checking: Whether their basic assessment skills transfer cleanly and they know when a normal-looking donor needs a second look.
