Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you had several people asking you for something at once. How did you decide what to do first?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize in a busy setting that sees over 68,000 patients a year.

How do you handle patients of all ages, from a scared toddler to an elderly patient who's confused?

What they are checking: Whether they can adjust how they talk and care for very different patients.

Tell me about a hard shift in a medical setting and how you took care of yourself after.

What they are checking: Whether they have healthy ways to manage stress in a high-energy environment that can be emotionally draining.

What would you do

You work alongside RNs, paramedics, respiratory therapists and social workers. How do you know whose instructions to follow when things move fast?

What they are checking: Whether they can work clearly within a multidisciplinary team without confusion about roles.

There are three dedicated behavioral health rooms. How would you approach a patient in crisis who's getting agitated?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay calm, use de-escalation, and keep themselves and others safe.

A patient's vital signs change suddenly while the nurse is in another room. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize a worsening patient and escalate right away instead of waiting.

The mid-shift means you'll join in the middle of the day's flow. How do you get up to speed when you start?

What they are checking: Whether they can step into a running department quickly without slowing anyone down.

About the work

What EMT skills do you expect to use in an emergency department, and how is that different from working in the field?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the ED tech role inside a team of providers and nurses rather than leading care alone.

This is a Level II trauma center. Walk me through what you'd do when a trauma patient rolls into one of the resuscitation rooms.

What they are checking: Whether they know their place in a trauma response, such as vitals, compressions, and getting supplies ready.

What procedures are you comfortable with, like EKGs, splinting or wound care?

What they are checking: Whether their hands-on skills match what an ED tech is expected to do on day one.
