Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you used electrical schematics or blueprints to fix something that wasn't obvious.

What they are checking: Real ability to read and apply schematics, not just familiarity with the word.

Tell me about a time you spotted a problem during preventive maintenance and fixed it before it caused downtime.

What they are checking: A proactive maintenance mindset, which the posting names as the core of the job.

How do you document what you did on a repair so the day shift knows what happened?

What they are checking: Whether they leave clear repair notes so problems are not misdiagnosed or repeated.

Tell me about a repair that went wrong or took much longer than expected. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Honesty about mistakes and whether they learn from failed repairs.

What would you do

It's 2 AM, a press line is down, and production is pressuring you to get it back up fast. How do you balance speed with doing the repair right?

What they are checking: Whether they resist shortcuts under pressure that would cause repeat failures or safety risks.

You're on nights with limited backup. How do you decide when to fix something yourself and when to call someone in?

What they are checking: Judgment about their own limits and when escalation is safer than working alone.

Overtime may be required on this schedule. How do you handle being asked to stay late after a 12-hour shift?

What they are checking: Realistic flexibility and awareness of fatigue when working on electrical equipment.

About the work

Walk me through your lockout/tagout process before you work on a machine.

What they are checking: Whether they follow LOTO step by step, including verifying zero energy, which is non-negotiable for this role.

A motor won't start. You have a multimeter and the wiring diagram. How do you track down the problem?

What they are checking: A logical troubleshooting sequence through power, controls, contactors and relays instead of swapping parts at random.

What's your experience maintaining chillers, process pumps and compressors? What kind of preventive work did you do on them?

What they are checking: Depth with plant utilities equipment that keeps the whole facility running.

How comfortable are you on band saws, mills and lathes? Tell me about something you fabricated.

What they are checking: Whether they can make or modify parts themselves when a replacement is not on hand at night.
