Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a repair where you learned something new about the process, not just the equipment.

What they are checking: Whether they build knowledge of the whole process, which the posting lists as the first duty.

How do you hand off to the third-shift electrician at 9?

What they are checking: Whether they pass along what's open and what's risky so nothing gets lost between shifts.

What would you do

It's late on second shift and you can't find the fault. When do you call for help?

What they are checking: Whether they know when to escalate instead of leaving a mill down for hours out of pride.

How do you make sure the parts you'll need are in the storeroom?

What they are checking: Whether they think ahead about spares so a breakdown doesn't turn into a long wait.

About the work

A tube mill drive trips and won't reset. Walk me through what you check, in order.

What they are checking: Whether they read the fault code and work from drive to motor to load instead of resetting until it sticks.

How comfortable are you going online with a PLC to find out why a machine stopped?

What they are checking: Whether they can use PLC software to trace a stop condition, which this role expects every shift.

Tell me about a VFD you programmed or replaced. What parameters did you set?

What they are checking: Whether they've done real drive setup and understand what each key parameter controls.

How would you test a three-phase motor you think might be bad?

What they are checking: Whether they know to check windings, insulation resistance and current balance rather than judging by sound.

A proximity sensor on the line keeps dropping out. What could be causing it?

What they are checking: Whether they consider gap, mounting, cable damage, contamination and wiring, not just replacing the sensor.

What's your process for working safely around energized equipment when you need to take readings?

What they are checking: Whether they use proper PPE and arc flash practices and limit energized work to what is truly needed.
