Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the most hands-on electrical project you've done. What did you design and build?

What they are checking: Whether they have applied classroom knowledge to something real and can explain it.

Tell me about a team project where people disagreed on an approach. How was it settled?

What they are checking: Whether they can work through disagreements with cross-functional teammates.

How do you keep good notes and documentation on your work?

What they are checking: Whether others will be able to pick up and trust their work after the internship ends.

What are you hoping to learn this summer that school hasn't taught you?

What they are checking: Whether they have clear goals and will make the most of the internship.

What would you do

You're asked to help on a prototype build and you see the harness doesn't match the schematic. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they document the mismatch and raise it rather than quietly fixing one side.

About the work

How would you choose a fuse or circuit breaker for a circuit on a vehicle?

What they are checking: Whether they protect the wire based on load and wire size, a basic but critical skill.

What do you need to think about when designing a wire harness for a heavy vehicle?

What they are checking: Whether they consider routing, vibration, abrasion, connectors and serviceability.

A light on a prototype doesn't turn on. Walk me through how you'd troubleshoot it.

What they are checking: Whether they check power, ground, signal and component in a logical order.

What do you know about embedded controls or CAN communication on vehicles?

What they are checking: Whether they have exposure to how modern vehicle systems talk to each other.

How would you pick between two components that do the same job?

What they are checking: Whether they think about ratings, cost, availability and reliability, not just function.
