Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time a shop electrician or field tech found an error in your drawings. What did you do?

What they are checking: How they take feedback from the floor and whether they fix the cause, not just the sheet.

How do you work with engineers when you think their markup is unclear or wrong?

What they are checking: Whether they speak up respectfully and get clarity instead of guessing.

What would you do

A customer wants a different brand of drive than our standard design uses. How do you approach that change?

What they are checking: Whether they think through wiring, parameters, panel space and documentation for a substitution.

How do you decide when an old design should be modernized rather than just modified again?

What they are checking: Judgment about obsolescence and long-term cost, which the posting names as part of the role.

Several jobs need drawings this week. How do you plan your work?

What they are checking: Organization and communication about deadlines in a busy OEM design office.

About the work

Much of this role is modifying schematics to fit a customer's requirements. Walk me through how you approach changing an existing design.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the ripple effects of a change across sheets, parts lists and wire numbers.

What electrical CAD software have you used, and what features do you rely on most?

What they are checking: Practical tool fluency that lets them be productive quickly on our drawings.

How do you check a drawing package before release so mistakes do not reach the shop floor?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real self-check routine, since drawing errors become wiring errors.

What do you check when selecting wire sizes, fuses and breakers for a circuit?

What they are checking: Basic electrical understanding behind the drawings, not just drafting skill.

What is your understanding of how corrugating or converting machines are put together electrically?

What they are checking: Interest in and basic grasp of the machines whose drawings they will produce.
