Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

How do you build a safety culture where employees report near misses instead of hiding them?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that trust and follow-through, not posters, are what drive reporting.

Tell me about a time you got employees engaged in a safety initiative that actually stuck.

What they are checking: Whether they can create ownership on the floor so programs last beyond the launch.

What would you do

A supervisor tells you safety rules are slowing down production. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can influence leaders by finding safe ways to meet production goals instead of just saying no.

You see a long-time operator working without required guarding or PPE. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they address unsafe behavior right away and respectfully, regardless of the person's seniority.

How would you prepare the site for an OSHA inspection or a corporate EHS audit?

What they are checking: Whether they keep records and programs inspection-ready all year instead of scrambling at the last minute.

About the work

You'd be the site expert on federal, state and local EHS regulations. Which OSHA standards do you think matter most in a plastics machining and fabrication plant?

What they are checking: Whether they know relevant standards like machine guarding, lockout tagout, hazard communication and PPE for this kind of shop.

Walk me through how you investigate an injury from the first call to closing the corrective action.

What they are checking: Whether they find root causes and verify fixes rather than stopping at blaming the employee.

What environmental compliance programs have you managed, like permits, waste or stormwater?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on experience with the environmental side, not only workplace safety.

How do you run a lockout tagout program and check that it's being followed?

What they are checking: Whether they audit real practice on the floor and coach, not just keep written procedures on file.

Which EHS metrics would you track, and what do leading indicators tell you that injury rates don't?

What they are checking: Whether they look at proactive measures like observations and closed actions, not only lagging injury counts.
