Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

What does a business analyst do, in your own words, and why does it interest you more than other roles?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the job is about defining problems and requirements, not only building spreadsheets.

Tell me about a school or work project where you had to figure out what a group actually needed before solving anything.

What they are checking: Early signs of requirements gathering and asking questions before jumping to answers.

You will work with both business and technical teams. Tell me about a time you explained something technical to someone who was not.

What they are checking: Ability to translate between groups, which is the center of an analyst's daily work.

Tell me about a time you received critical feedback. What did you do with it?

What they are checking: Coachability, which matters most in a ten-week program built around learning.

At the end of ten weeks, what would you want to have produced so the team says your internship mattered?

What they are checking: Ownership of deliverables and a realistic picture of what an intern can contribute.

What would you do

HCSC talks about member-focused solutions. What do you think matters most to someone dealing with their health insurance?

What they are checking: Whether they can think from the member's side, which shapes good requirements in health insurance.

Halfway through your internship, your manager is out and you are unsure what to do next on your project. What do you do?

What they are checking: Growing independence and judgment about when to ask others versus making reasonable progress alone.

How would you organize your work if you were given two deliverables from two different people due the same week?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate conflicts early instead of quietly missing one deadline.

About the work

If you were given a messy spreadsheet of member service calls and asked what is driving complaints, how would you start?

What they are checking: Basic analytical approach: cleaning data, grouping it and looking for patterns before drawing conclusions.

Which tools have you used for analysis, like Excel, SQL or a visualization tool, and what did you build with them?

What they are checking: Honest baseline of technical skills so the team knows where to start them.
