Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the welding experience you have so far, whether from a course, a school shop or on your own.

What they are checking: Their starting point, since the program welcomes people from courses and school shops rather than only experienced welders.

This program pays more as you hit training checkpoints and certifications. How do you prepare when you know you'll be tested on a skill?

What they are checking: Their motivation and study habits for passing the certifications that drive pay increases here.

Tell me about a time someone corrected your work. How did you take it?

What they are checking: Coachability, which decides how fast a trainee becomes a certified production welder.

Tell me about a job or project where you had to show up on time every day and work hard physically.

What they are checking: Reliability and stamina for production work in a heavy manufacturing plant.

Why welding, and why do you want to build that career here in South Milwaukee?

What they are checking: Their real motivation, which predicts whether they finish the program and stay.

What would you do

You'll train on 1st or 2nd shift, but after training the job is 2nd shift. How does that fit your life?

What they are checking: Whether they have truly planned for the long-term shift, which affects retention after training.

What do you do if you're not sure how to read part of a print or a weld symbol?

What they are checking: Whether they ask instead of guessing, which prevents rework on heavy equipment parts.

About the work

What welding processes have you tried, and which one do you feel most comfortable with?

What they are checking: Basic process familiarity and honesty about their current skill level.

What safety gear do you wear when welding, and why does each piece matter?

What they are checking: Understanding of welding hazards like burns, fumes and arc flash before they enter a production floor.

What do you think makes a weld good or bad when you look at it?

What they are checking: Early visual inspection sense, like undercut, porosity and consistent bead shape.
