Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you pushed back on a requirement because the design would cause problems later.

What they are checking: Whether a senior developer protects long-term maintainability rather than building whatever is asked.

You are collaborating with business analysts who describe needs loosely. How do you turn that into something buildable?

What they are checking: Asking the right questions so the build matches what the business actually needs.

How do you mentor less experienced developers on a platform as specialized as Documentum?

What they are checking: Sharing knowledge so the team is not dependent on one senior person.

What would you do

A workflow is getting stuck for some documents but not others. How do you debug it?

What they are checking: Methodical troubleshooting of server-side workflow behavior and data conditions.

A production fix is needed today, but proper testing would take a week. What do you do?

What they are checking: Balancing urgency against risk and being open with stakeholders about the tradeoff.

About the work

Walk me through a custom component you built on OpenText Documentum, from requirement to deployment.

What they are checking: Hands-on senior development experience on the platform rather than general Java experience.

How do you design and implement a document lifecycle with several review and approval states?

What they are checking: Understanding of complex lifecycle workflows, which the posting highlights directly.

What is your experience with DFC, DFS or REST services in Documentum, and when would you choose each?

What they are checking: Knowing the integration options and their tradeoffs, which shapes every solution they build.

How do you write DQL that performs well against a very large repository?

What they are checking: Awareness of query cost and indexing, since careless queries can slow everyone down.

How do you test Documentum customizations, and how do you make sure they survive a platform upgrade?

What they are checking: Discipline about testing and upgrade risk in a platform known for painful upgrades.
