Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a transmission project you advanced toward execution. What made it move when others stalled?

What they are checking: Whether they have real experience pushing long, hard transmission projects through the stages that kill most of them.

You lead people across engineering, grid planning, finance, environmental review and routing. How do you keep them pointed at one decision?

What they are checking: Whether they can run a matrixed team with many experts and still drive clear, timely decisions.

Describe a time you had to stop or shelve a project you'd put a lot into.

What they are checking: Whether they can make the disciplined call to stop spending rather than chase sunk costs.

How do you guide a direct report who is technically strong but struggles in front of regulators or executives?

What they are checking: Whether they invest in growing leaders on their team and not just in finishing projects.

What would you do

Your preferred route hits strong landowner and county opposition. How do you decide whether to fight it or reroute?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh cost, schedule, permitting odds and public trust instead of defaulting to one answer.

How do you present a transmission investment to senior leaders who are used to generation projects?

What they are checking: Whether they can explain long timelines and regulated returns in terms leaders can make a decision on.

Where do you see the biggest openings for new transmission over the next five years, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they have a current, grounded view of where load growth, policy and congestion create real chances.

About the work

How do you decide whether to pursue a merchant line, a competitive solicitation or a utility partnership?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the different paths to recover cost on transmission and the risks each one carries.

You're building a proposal for a competitive transmission solicitation. What goes into it, and where do bids usually fail?

What they are checking: Whether they know how grid planners score proposals on cost, risk and feasibility, not just low price.

What grid planning studies matter most early on to show a new line is needed?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how reliability, economic and policy need cases are built and challenged.
