Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the largest program you've led that delivered a product or platform. How did you structure it?

What they are checking: Whether they have run work at real scale and can explain the operating rhythm that held it together.

Tell me about a time a program you led was going to miss a commitment. How and when did you tell leadership?

What they are checking: Whether they surface bad news early with options, which is what makes a program leader trusted.

Tell me about a TPM or program manager you developed into a stronger leader.

What they are checking: Whether they build their people, which matters at director level as much as delivery.

What would you do

Two engineering leaders on your program disagree on an architecture choice and it's blocking delivery. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can force a timely decision through the right forum without taking sides on technical merit they don't own.

You inherit a program that's behind, over scope, and has low team morale. What are your first thirty days?

What they are checking: Whether they diagnose before acting and can reset scope and trust at the same time.

A senior executive keeps adding scope mid-program. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can make tradeoffs visible to executives and protect delivery without saying a flat no.

About the work

How do you decide which dependencies on a large program deserve your personal attention?

What they are checking: Whether they can find the critical path and highest-risk links instead of spreading attention evenly.

How technical do you think a director of technical program management needs to be? Show me with an example.

What they are checking: Whether they can engage credibly with engineers on design and risk, not just track tasks.

What metrics would you use to tell whether a platform program is actually delivering business value?

What they are checking: Whether they measure outcomes like adoption and reliability, not just milestones hit.

How do you manage risk and compliance requirements on a technology program at a regulated bank?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for security, audit and regulatory needs as part of delivery rather than as late surprises.
