Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This role sets the multi-year roadmap for a shared services organization and runs its transformation office. Walk me through a multi-year transformation you've led.
What they are checking: Scope and whether they led it or contributed to it
You're orchestrating resources you don't directly control. How do you get a pillar leader to prioritize your initiative?
What they are checking: Whether they can win support from leaders they do not manage, by tying their work to that leader's own goals and pressures.
Tell me about a transformation that didn't deliver what it promised. What was your part in that?
What they are checking: Accountability, at a level where most candidates present only wins
How do you tell an executive the roadmap has to change?
What they are checking: Whether they raise bad news early and plainly with executives, because a roadmap change shared late becomes a crisis instead of a decision.
What would you do
How do you build an operating model change that survives the people who designed it moving on?
What they are checking: Whether they design changes into structures, roles and metrics so they last, rather than relying on a few champions who will eventually move on.
You'd own an innovation function and run pilots and proofs of concept. How do you decide when a pilot should stop rather than get another round?
What they are checking: Whether they set stop criteria before a pilot starts and act on them, since innovation functions often keep weak ideas alive too long.
How do you align a shared services strategy to enterprise objectives when the enterprise objectives keep moving?
What they are checking: Whether they can keep a strategy useful while enterprise priorities shift, adjusting the plan without losing the team's trust or momentum.
This is based at North Chicago with executive oversight of the transformation office. What would you want to know about the current state before you took it?
What they are checking: Whether they ask hard questions about what they would inherit, such as sponsor support, team capability and the history of past transformation efforts.
About the work
The posting names leading enterprise assessments and business cases. How do you build a business case for a change whose benefit is hard to measure?
What they are checking: Whether they stay honest about benefits that are hard to measure, because inflated business cases damage credibility for every future proposal.
Where does automation genuinely help in a shared services operation, and where have you seen it disappoint?
What they are checking: Whether they judge automation with clear eyes, knowing where it saves real effort and where it adds cost, exceptions and maintenance burden.
