Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through the largest imaging department you've directed. How many modalities, how many staff, and did it include Nuclear Medicine?

whether the candidate's scale of experience actually matches the 7-years-large-complex-department requirement

Tell me about a time you had to bring a modality or service back into compliance with Joint Commission standards. What was out of line and how did you fix it?

hands-on regulatory compliance experience versus theoretical knowledge

Describe a time a radiologist or medical staff member pushed back hard on an operational change you wanted to make. How did you handle it?

ability to manage physician relationships without title authority over them

Tell me about a time you had to cut costs in an imaging department without hurting quality or turnaround times. What did you cut and what did you protect?

financial discipline balanced against patient care standards

Tell me about a difficult personnel situation you handled, maybe a termination or a corrective action with a long-tenured tech.

comfort with the harder side of HR responsibilities listed in the role

Technical

How have you used PACS or similar imaging IT infrastructure to solve an operational problem, not just keep it running?

depth of PACS knowledge beyond buzzword familiarity

Tell me about a capital equipment decision you drove, like replacing a CT or MRI unit. How did you build the business case and get it approved?

capital budgeting competence and ability to justify large spend to finance leadership

How do you evaluate whether the fees charged for imaging services are still aligned with departmental guidelines and market rates?

understanding of pricing structure and revenue cycle awareness, a specific line item in the job

What's your approach to building a quality assurance program from scratch or improving one that's underperforming?

whether QA program design is something they've actually built, not just administered

How do you think about freestanding imaging strategy compared to hospital-based imaging, and what factors would push you toward growing one over the other?

strategic thinking about market position, a specific initiative named in the posting

Situational

Say a surveyor shows up unannounced tomorrow and flags a gap in your radiation safety documentation. What do you do in the first 24 hours?

crisis response and whether they know what real survey readiness looks like

If two of your modality managers were in open conflict over shared techs or equipment scheduling, how would you step in?

conflict resolution and diplomacy across units, called out directly in the posting

If corporate wants a system-wide standard for a process, say PACS workflow or maintenance agreements, but your site has a workaround that works better locally, how do you handle that tension?

ability to balance system-level standardization with local operational realities

Tell me about a time you had rotating on-call responsibility for imaging operations and something went wrong overnight. How did you manage it remotely?

practical readiness for the call coverage demands of this specific schedule
