Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about building a bench of senior architects.

What they are checking: Whether they deliberately develop senior architects who could step into their role, because succession is part of a director's real responsibility.

Tell me about a time your architecture vision was rejected. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they handle rejection constructively and adjust their approach, which shows resilience and openness to other perspectives on architecture.

What would you do

A business leader wants a GenAI tool deployed quickly, but it doesn't fit the target-state architecture. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can find a path that meets the business need while managing risk, rather than simply approving or blocking the request.

How do you guide investment decisions with vendors and finance partners?

What they are checking: Whether they can shape investment decisions with clear reasoning and financial awareness, working with vendors and finance rather than around them.

About the work

How would you build a multi-year Data and AI architecture roadmap for Operations and Finance?

What they are checking: Whether they can build a multi-year roadmap tied to business priorities and current systems, rather than an idealized diagram nobody funds or follows.

What does a good architecture review process look like, and how do you keep it from slowing delivery?

What they are checking: Whether they design architecture reviews that guide teams quickly, because reviews that only slow delivery get bypassed and lose their value.

How would you design a reusable pattern for deploying AI models on finance data with security and compliance in mind?

What they are checking: Whether they can design repeatable patterns that build in security and compliance, so teams can deploy AI on sensitive data safely and quickly.

How do you decide where data should live across operations and finance systems?

What they are checking: Whether they make sound choices about data placement and integration, since those decisions shape cost, quality and reporting for years afterward.

How do regulatory requirements shape architecture in a pharmaceutical operations environment?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that GxP and data integrity rules shape systems and data design, since compliance gaps in pharma can halt operations.

How do you define decision rights between business and technology organizations?

What they are checking: Whether they can define clear decision rights between business and IT, since unclear ownership is a common cause of stalled technology work.
