Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an MES or similar system rollout you supported. What went wrong, and how did you help fix it?

What they are checking: Honest experience with deployments, since go-lives in manufacturing rarely go exactly to plan.

Tell me about a time you worked remotely with a team spread across several sites. How did you keep work moving?

What they are checking: Self-direction and clear communication in a remote role supporting plants they rarely visit.

How do you keep your knowledge of the business process current when you are supporting the system rather than doing the work yourself?

What they are checking: Curiosity about how parts are really made, which separates useful analysts from order takers.

What would you do

Walk me through how you gather requirements from a shop floor supervisor who is too busy to sit in a meeting.

What they are checking: Meeting operations where they work so the requirements reflect reality rather than an office guess.

An operator says the system is forcing a workaround that slows the line. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Taking floor feedback seriously and weighing it against the controls the system is there to enforce.

Two plants want the same feature built two different ways. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Pushing toward a common standard while respecting real differences between sites.

About the work

What does a Manufacturing Execution System do on the shop floor, and how does it connect to ERP and quality systems?

What they are checking: Real understanding of where MES sits in the manufacturing stack and what flows in and out of it.

How would you write a functional spec for a new work instruction step so the developer and the operator both understand it?

What they are checking: Clear writing that bridges technical teams and the people who will actually use the screen.

In aerospace engine manufacturing, why does traceability matter so much, and how does MES support it?

What they are checking: Awareness that parts must be traceable to their history for safety and regulatory reasons.

How have you tested a change in a system that controls production, and how did you decide it was ready?

What they are checking: Rigor in testing when a bad release can stop production or let a nonconforming part through.
