Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a design you had to change because it couldn't be manufactured the way you first drew it.

What they are checking: Whether they work with tooling and production early rather than handing over designs that fail on the floor.

Tell me about a time you worked directly with a customer engineer to solve a packaging problem.

What they are checking: Customer collaboration skills, since the posting stresses turning customer needs into designs.

Tell me about a project where you missed a deadline or a design failed testing. What happened next?

What they are checking: Honesty and how they respond to setbacks in a role where failed tests are part of development.

What would you do

A customer wants a design change late in development, after validation has started. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they understand change control and revalidation impact in a regulated medical environment.

How do you design with sustainability in mind when the main job is protecting a medical device?

What they are checking: Ability to balance material reduction goals against patient safety and regulatory requirements.

About the work

Walk me through how you take a customer's requirements for a medical device tray and turn them into a manufacturable thermoformed design.

What they are checking: Whether they think through device fit, material, draw ratios, tooling and sterile barrier needs from the start.

What do you consider when designing a sterile barrier system so it holds up through sterilization, shipping and opening in a clinic?

What they are checking: Understanding of how sterilization, distribution testing and aseptic presentation shape medical packaging design.

How do you account for material thinning in deep draws when you design a thermoformed part?

What they are checking: Practical thermoforming knowledge, since wall thickness drives strength, cost and whether the package passes testing.

What CAD tools do you use, and how do you go from a 3D model to tooling and prototypes?

What they are checking: Real fluency with the design-to-tool workflow that drives speed to market in this role.

What standards or regulations have you worked to in medical packaging, such as ISO 11607?

What they are checking: Whether they have real exposure to the requirements that make medical packaging different from consumer packaging.

How do you document your design decisions so someone else can follow them during an audit?

What they are checking: Discipline about design history and traceability, which customers and auditors expect in medical work.
