Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time your analysis changed a business decision.

What they are checking: Whether their work has led to action, and whether they can explain how they made the case.

Tell me about a time you automated something you used to do by hand.

What they are checking: Initiative to make repeated work faster and more reliable instead of just doing it again.

What would you do

A business partner asks for a report, but you think they're asking the wrong question. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they clarify the real goal before building something that won't help.

How do you explain a model's or analysis's limits to someone who wants a simple answer?

What they are checking: Honesty about uncertainty while still giving a useful recommendation to a non-technical audience.

If lead quality from your model drops after a few months, how would you investigate?

What they are checking: Understanding that data and behavior shift over time and a structured way to find why results changed.

About the work

Walk me through an analysis you did on a very large dataset. What tools did you use and what did you find?

What they are checking: Real hands-on experience with large data and the ability to explain both method and result clearly.

How would you use machine telematics data to find sales leads for Cat dealers?

What they are checking: Whether they can connect raw equipment data to a business question like who needs parts, service or a new machine.

Write out loud how you'd find, in SQL, customers whose machines crossed a service-hour threshold in the last 30 days.

What they are checking: Working SQL ability with time windows and joins, which is the daily bread of this kind of analytics role.

How do you check that your data is right before you share results with the business?

What they are checking: Habits for validating data, since wrong insights sent to dealers damage trust quickly.

What's your experience with Python, cloud data platforms like Snowflake or Databricks, or visualization tools?

What they are checking: Whether their tool skills match the work, and how quickly they could be productive on the team's stack.
