Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time bad master data caused a real business problem. How did you trace it and fix it?

What they are checking: Whether they connect data integrity to business outcomes like shipping, pricing or planning errors.

How do you document data standards so people actually follow them?

What they are checking: Whether they write usable standards and train people, which makes governance scalable.

What would you do

How do you decide who owns a piece of master data, and what happens when nobody wants to own it?

What they are checking: Whether they can set up data ownership and governance instead of becoming the data cleanup person.

You find thousands of duplicate supplier records across connected systems. How would you plan the cleanup?

What they are checking: Whether they plan cleanup carefully with business input, since merging wrong records breaks transactions.

A sales leader wants a master data change made today without going through the approval process. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold the line on governance while still helping the business move fast.

About the work

Tell me about your experience maintaining master data in an ERP. Have you worked in Infor LN or something similar?

What they are checking: Whether they know item, customer and supplier master data well enough to keep Infor LN clean.

What data quality rules would you put in place for new item creation?

What they are checking: Whether they prevent bad data at entry rather than only fixing it later.

What tools or scripts have you used to analyze and fix data at scale, like SQL, Excel or Python?

What they are checking: Whether they can go beyond transactional maintenance to analyze data with real technical skill.

How would you measure whether data governance is actually working?

What they are checking: Whether they can define metrics that show progress instead of reporting activity.

How does master data flow between the ERP and other systems, and where does it usually break?

What they are checking: Whether they understand integrations, since connected systems are where data integrity usually fails.
