Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an audit you managed. What went well and what would you do differently?

What they are checking: Whether they have led audits end to end and learn from them rather than just surviving them.

Tell me about how you have hired and developed people on a GRC team.

What they are checking: Whether they can grow staff and manage performance, since this role manages a team and not just a program.

What would you do

A new clinical vendor needs access to patient data and the department wants to go live next week. How do you handle the third-party risk review?

What they are checking: Whether they can scale vendor review to the risk and work with the business instead of being only a blocker.

How would you explain cyber risk to hospital executives so they can make a funding decision?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn technical findings into business and patient safety terms that leaders act on.

A department leader wants an exception to a security policy. How do you decide?

What they are checking: Whether they use a documented risk acceptance process with the right approver instead of saying yes or no by feel.

About the work

Walk me through how you would assess this hospital's security program against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

What they are checking: Whether they can use NIST CSF as a real working tool to find gaps and set priorities, not just a label.

How do HIPAA, HITECH and PCI DSS overlap, and where do they differ in what they ask of a hospital?

What they are checking: Whether they understand each regulation's scope well enough to avoid both duplicate work and missed requirements.

How do you track remediation from risk assessments so findings actually get fixed?

What they are checking: Whether they have a system for ownership, deadlines and follow-up that keeps old findings from sitting open for years.

In a hospital, some medical devices cannot be patched. How do you handle that risk?

What they are checking: Whether they understand clinical constraints and use compensating controls instead of demanding fixes that would disrupt care.

How would you build a security awareness program that changes behavior and not just completion rates?

What they are checking: Whether they measure real behavior like phishing reporting, and design training for busy clinical staff.
