About your past

What they are checking: Whether they can switch between many small procedures without letting accuracy slip on the money side.

Tell me about a time a customer was upset with you over something you couldn't change. What did you say?

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm under pressure and can explain a rule without sounding cold or defensive.

This job needs nights and weekends. What does your availability look like, and how do you handle schedule changes?

Tell me about a mistake you made with money or paperwork and how you caught it.

What they are checking: Whether they own errors quickly, which matters more than never making one when cash is involved.

What would you do

A customer wants to cash a check, but something about it doesn't match the ID they handed you. What do you do?

Hy-Vee talks about learning customers' names. How would you do that at a busy service counter?

What they are checking: Whether they see the personal touch as part of the job rather than something extra when there is time.

Someone asks you to mail a package and you aren't sure about the shipping rules for what's inside. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they ask and check instead of guessing on rules that carry real consequences.

A regular tries to chat while you're in the middle of counting cash. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they protect accuracy and security while still being friendly to the people they serve.

About the work

How do you make sure your cash drawer balances at the end of a shift?

What they are checking: Whether they have real habits for counting and checking, since shortages at a service desk are taken seriously.
