About your past
What makes you ready to step into a full-time coordinator role now?
What they are checking: Whether they have thought about the responsibility and can point to experience that prepared them for it.
Tell me about a time you gave a coworker feedback they didn't want to hear.
What they are checking: Whether they can deliver hard feedback kindly, which they will need when coaching associates on front end principles.
Tell me about a time you had to handle a cash or register mistake, yours or someone else's.
What they are checking: Whether they own and fix money errors calmly and follow procedure, since register accuracy is part of the job.
How do you keep your energy and your tone up with customers at the end of a long closing shift?
What they are checking: Whether their customer service holds up when they are tired, since they set the tone for the whole front end.
Tell me about a time you trained someone who was struggling to pick up a new task. What did you change about how you taught it?
What they are checking: Whether they adjust their coaching to the person, because new cashiers learn at very different speeds.
What would you do
Our stores carry a mix of brand-name goods that changes all the time. How would you help a customer who's frustrated that an item they saw last week is gone?
What they are checking: Whether they understand the off-price treasure-hunt model and can turn a letdown into a reason to come back.
What would you do if a customer got rude with one of your newer cashiers?
What they are checking: Whether they will step in to protect their associate while still taking care of the customer.
You'd assign registers and coordinate breaks for everyone up front. Walk me through how you'd plan breaks on a busy Saturday without leaving the lines long.
What they are checking: Whether they can plan coverage ahead of time instead of reacting, since break timing is where front ends usually fall apart.
How would you coach a cashier who rings accurately but never mentions the store credit card or loyalty program?
What they are checking: Whether they can coach a sales behavior without making the associate feel pushy or nagged.
A customer is upset because a return is past the policy window, and they want to speak to someone in charge. What do you say?
What they are checking: Whether they can hold company policy while keeping the customer's dignity and the line calm.
About the work
How would you tell whether your coaching on loyalty programs is actually working?
What they are checking: Whether they would look at results and follow up, instead of coaching once and hoping it sticks.
