Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to start an IV for contrast and it didn't go smoothly. What did you do?

comfort and competence with a hands-on clinical skill that's core to the job, plus how they handle setbacks with patients present

Tell me about a time a piece of equipment malfunctioned mid-shift. What did you do and who did you notify?

whether they follow documentation and reporting procedures instead of just working around problems

Tell me about a time you had to give bad news or manage a scared or upset patient right before or during a scan.

bedside manner and ability to keep a stressed patient calm enough to get a usable scan

What's your process for keeping current with new CT techniques or protocol changes, and can you give an example of something new you brought back to your team?

genuine investment in continuing education versus just meeting minimum inservice requirements

Technical

Walk me through how you select technical factors for a CT scan when the patient doesn't fit the standard protocol, like someone very large or very small.

whether the candidate actually understands how to adjust scan parameters for image quality and dose rather than just running default protocols

Describe your experience with cross-sectional anatomy. How do you use that knowledge day to day when you're positioning a patient or reviewing images before they go to the radiologist?

depth of anatomical knowledge versus rote positioning habits

Tell me about a time you had to document a charge correction or a modified procedure. How did you make sure the billing and the actual exam matched up?

attention to detail with documentation that has financial and compliance consequences

How do you adjust your approach when you're scanning a young child versus an elderly patient with dementia?

practical understanding of age-specific care, which the posting explicitly calls out as a requirement

Situational

A patient tells you they had a reaction to contrast years ago but they're not sure what kind. What do you do before you scan them?

knowledge of allergy screening and contrast safety protocol, and whether they'd escalate to a radiologist rather than guess

How do you go about getting a reliable history from a patient who's confused, in pain, or can't communicate well, when you need that information for the radiologist?

resourcefulness in gathering clinical history from charts, family, or care team when the patient can't provide it

This role covers two locations and includes rotating Saturdays. How do you typically handle a schedule with that kind of flexibility built in?

honest fit with the shift pattern and willingness to float between sites, not just polite agreement

If you noticed a colleague skipping a safety step, like not following the radiation or infection control standards, what would you do?

whether they'll speak up about safety even when it creates friction with a peer

You get called in on short notice, maybe for call-back or to cover another tech's PTO. How do you decide whether you can make it work, and how do you communicate that back to the department?

reliability and communication style around the unpredictable staffing demands of the job
