Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Give me an example of a project you managed from planning through launch where you had to track milestones, dependencies, and risks across multiple teams.

actual hands-on project management experience versus just familiarity with the vocabulary

Tell me about a time you had to build trust with a community that had reason to be skeptical of a large institution coming into their neighborhood.

credibility and genuine relationship-building skill with historically underserved or wary communities, not just outreach checklist experience

Describe a time you had to translate data or program results into a story that non-technical leadership or community members could actually understand and act on.

communication and storytelling ability tied to actual data interpretation, not just polished writing

Tell me about a time a community engagement effort didn't go the way you planned. What happened and what did you change?

honesty about failure and capacity to learn and adjust rather than a rehearsed success story

Technical

How would you design a set of metrics to track whether The Beacon is actually building community trust and engagement, not just hitting activity counts?

ability to distinguish vanity metrics from meaningful outcome measures in a community health context

What's your experience working across departments like communications, real estate, or planning and construction on a single initiative, and what made that coordination hard?

real cross-functional collaboration experience across the specific types of departments named in this posting

How do you think about health equity and population health when you're planning something as concrete as a community event or partner onboarding process?

whether the passion for health equity mentioned in the posting connects to actual practical judgment, not just stated values

Situational

Tell me about The Beacon as you understand it, and walk me through how you'd approach your first ninety days getting oriented to the Near West Side community and the project's current state.

whether the candidate did homework on this specific initiative and can think through a realistic ramp-up plan rather than generic onboarding talk

Say you're two weeks from a major community activation event and a key anchor partner pulls out. What do you do?

crisis management and ability to keep an event or milestone alive under pressure without panic

Walk me through how you'd run a partner convening or advisory meeting with stakeholders who have very different priorities, like a hospital, a nonprofit, and a neighborhood group.

facilitation skill and ability to manage competing agendas in the room

You're juggling launch readiness tasks, a community event next week, and a request from Beacon leadership for a special project. How do you decide what gets your attention first?

prioritization skill under competing demands typical of this ambiguous, fast-moving role

If six months from now this project were considered a clear success, what would that look like to you, and how would you know you got there?

ability to define success concretely and align it with organizational goals rather than activity for its own sake
