Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Describe a time you missed a sales goal. What did you learn and what did you change?

What they are checking: Whether they can look honestly at a miss and adjust, rather than blaming traffic or the market.

Tell me about a time you supervised peers or filled in as a lead. What was hard about it?

What they are checking: Whether they can direct people who may have been their equals, which this role asks of them daily.

What automotive experience do you bring, and where do you still have gaps?

What they are checking: Whether they know their own parts knowledge honestly, since expert knowledge is expected and bluffing costs sales.

What would you do

Shops around Tinley Park can buy parts from several places. What would make them call this store first?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that commercial loyalty comes from speed, accuracy and relationships, not just price.

A mechanic says the part you sent was wrong and blames your counter. What do you do first?

What they are checking: Whether they fix the customer's problem before assigning blame, which keeps a frustrated account loyal.

A shop owner says a competitor down the road is beating your price. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can sell on service, availability and reliability instead of reaching straight for a discount.

Your GM wants more focus on retail, but you think commercial accounts need you right now. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can raise a disagreement with data and still support the GM's final call.

About the work

What do you look at to decide whether a commercial credit account is healthy?

What they are checking: Whether they understand payment history and credit limits well enough to protect the store while still selling.

How would you build and keep a network of second source suppliers so you can fill orders the system says you can't?

What they are checking: Whether they treat outside suppliers as relationships to maintain, which is how hard-to-find parts still get delivered.

How do you manage the core bank and commercial returns so they don't pile up and cost the store money?

What they are checking: Whether they know cores and returns are real dollars that vanish when they are not tracked and processed on time.

What does a good commercial stocking program look like for a busy shop, and how do you keep it accurate?

What they are checking: Whether they see that stocking a customer's shelf with the right parts locks in their business and cuts emergency runs.
