Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This role manages a commercial client portfolio within dealership finance for the automotive industry. What portfolio management have you done?

What they are checking: Portfolio ownership rather than transactional analysis

What would you do

You'd use the bank's proprietary risk model to assess default and repayment risk and its return model to evaluate return on allocated capital. How do you handle a deal that scores fine on risk and poorly on return?

What they are checking: The two named models, weighed against each other

You'd perform periodic covenant compliance testing. What do you do when a covenant is tripped?

What they are checking: The moment monitoring becomes a decision

You'd spread financials to support underwriting. How do you handle financial statements you do not trust?

What they are checking: Skepticism about the inputs

This sits at Canal Street alongside a Financial Analyst role in dealer finance, with an application deadline of September 29. Why the portfolio role rather than that one?

What they are checking: A real reason for the specific post of a twin pair

About the work

You'd perform income statement, balance sheet and cash flow analysis including debt service coverage. Walk me through assessing whether a dealership can service its debt.

What they are checking: The core credit calculation on the named borrower type

Dealerships carry floor plan financing against inventory. What does that change about how you analyze one?

What they are checking: The distinctive structure of auto dealer lending

You'd track monthly statements, covenant compliance certificates and borrowing base reports. What would make you look harder at a borrowing base?

What they are checking: Monitoring with a real trigger

You'd complete annual reviews. What does a good annual review actually establish?

What they are checking: Purpose rather than process

How do you spot a dealership in trouble before the numbers say so?

What they are checking: Judgment beyond the statements
