About your past

What they are checking: Whether they have real technique and know their limit on attempts before getting help or rescheduling.

The schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday plus some Saturdays. How does that fit with your life?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably cover a single-person site where an absence leaves no one to draw.

How do you build a working relationship with the physician office staff at a client site who are not your direct coworkers?

What they are checking: Whether they can represent NM well inside someone else's office and keep that client relationship healthy.

What would you do

This role is at a client site in Barrington, often working on your own. How do you handle a problem when there is no lab supervisor down the hall?

What they are checking: Whether they can make sound decisions independently and know when and how to escalate remotely.

You get an order that is missing information or looks wrong. What do you do before you draw?

A patient complains about a long wait and says they will leave. What do you say?

What they are checking: Whether they can recover service gracefully and keep patients from walking out without their draw.

About the work

Walk me through your venipuncture process from greeting the patient to labeling the tubes.

What they are checking: Whether they follow patient identification and labeling steps every time, not just the needle part.

How do you use AIDET when a nervous patient sits down in your chair?

What they are checking: Whether they know the AIDET model the posting names and can use it naturally rather than reciting it.

What do you do if a patient starts to faint during or right after a draw?

What they are checking: Whether they know immediate post-phlebotomy care and how to keep a patient safe when working alone.

How do you make sure specimens are processed and stored correctly before they are picked up?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that centrifuging, temperature and timing affect whether results are valid.
