Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you helped a stranger who was confused or lost. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they naturally take ownership of getting someone where they need to go, not just pointing.

Tell me about a time you worked somewhere busy and still made each person feel noticed.

What they are checking: Whether they can keep warmth and attention steady when many people need them at once.

This role is 20 hours a week on first shift. Why does this schedule and this kind of work fit you right now?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought about the commitment and will show up reliably for a part-time role.

What does a positive experience for a visitor mean to you, and how would you know you had created one?

What they are checking: Whether they connect small actions like eye contact and follow-through to how families feel about their whole visit.

What would you do

You are often the first person a family sees when they walk in. How do you greet a family that looks scared or upset?

What they are checking: Whether they read emotion quickly and adjust their tone instead of using one cheerful script for everyone.

A parent is frustrated about parking and wait times and raises their voice at you. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay calm and kind without taking it personally, since hospital stress often lands on the front desk.

How would you make a young child feel comfortable in a hospital lobby?

What they are checking: Whether they can speak to children at their level and understand how frightening a hospital can feel.

Part of keeping visitors safe is following visitor rules. What would you do if someone wanted to go upstairs without following the process?

What they are checking: Whether they will hold a safety rule politely and get help rather than bending it to avoid conflict.

You notice someone in the lobby who seems unwell or in distress. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they know to act quickly and call the right people instead of assuming someone else will.

How do you handle it when a family shares something private or emotional with you?

What they are checking: Whether they understand privacy in a hospital and can listen with care without passing information along.
