A branch banker refers a business owner to you, but the business clearly won't qualify for the loan they want. How do you handle it?

How would you coach branch staff to spot small business opportunities they're currently missing?

What they are checking: Whether they can act as a resource that makes the branch better instead of a lone producer.

A long-time client's revenue dropped sharply this year and they're asking to increase their line. What do you do next?

What they are checking: Whether they gather facts and bring in credit partners early rather than promising something they cannot deliver.

About the work

Looking at a small business's financial statements, what tells you their operating cycle is putting pressure on cash?

What they are checking: Whether they can read receivables, inventory and payables timing and connect it to the client's borrowing need.

How would you explain the difference between a term loan and a revolving line of credit to a business owner who has never borrowed before?

What they are checking: Whether they can match financing to its purpose and explain it in plain language a busy owner will follow.

What risks do you look for when a small business wants to borrow, and how do you talk about them with the client?

What they are checking: Whether they think like an underwriter while still treating the owner as a partner rather than a suspect.
