Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a robotics or autonomy project you built. What part of the stack did you own?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on experience and can clearly describe their piece of the work.

Tell me about a time your code worked in testing but failed on real hardware.

What they are checking: Whether they have learned the gap between lab and field and how to close it.

What would you do

You're about to demo a feature on a vehicle and you're not fully confident it's safe. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they put safety ahead of looking good in a demo.

How would you explain an active safety feature's limits to an operator who will rely on it?

What they are checking: Whether they understand over-trust in automation is a real safety risk.

You get to own a project this summer. How would you make sure it's useful to the team after you leave?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for documentation and handoff, not just a demo.

About the work

How would you combine camera, radar and lidar data to detect an obstacle near a large vehicle?

What they are checking: Whether they understand sensor fusion and the strengths and weaknesses of each sensor.

What's harder about autonomy for a big truck or access machine than for a passenger car?

What they are checking: Whether they think about size, blind spots, low speeds, worksites and heavy loads.

How would you test a perception feature in simulation before running it on a real vehicle?

What they are checking: Whether they value simulation for safety and repeatability before real-world testing.

Your localization drifts during a test run. How would you start figuring out why?

What they are checking: Whether they can debug sensor calibration, timing and data quality methodically.

What programming languages and frameworks, like ROS, are you comfortable with?

What they are checking: Whether they can contribute to robotics code soon after starting.
